Frequently Asked Questions – FAQs

Age of Participants:

Is your child ready? Our page, Self Defense for Girls, will assist you. Our Self Defense Women’s Basic Course is designed for ages 16 and older.

We do take younger ladies under certain circumstances. Otherwise our young Teenage Self Defense Class between the ages of 12 to 15 is more appropriate. We would need a group of 10 to 15 teenagers for a Young Teen Class.

Our Protecting Children from Danger class is designed for ages 5 – 11. We prefer ages grouped within 3 to 4 year age differences, such as 5 to 8 and 8-11. Closer age groups result in better age appropriate training.

Class Locations:

We do travel, and will contact you when courses are scheduled in various locations.  Click here for our current locations.

Host a Class:

If you would like to host a class, we can teach at a location convenient for your group. More information can be found on our host an event page.

Classes can be tailored to each group. When hosting a class we would need a group of 12 to 15 participants, and would need to cover travel expenses.

Cost – Tuition:

We are a non-profit organization. Our Basic Course tuition averages $30 per training hour per student. Group rates are available for 15 or more students. Tuition may not always cover the costs of holding a course depending on location taught.

Some considerations about the costs of self defense can be found on our page that addresses How Much Does Self Defense Classes Cost?

Taught in small groups maintains personalized instruction while keeping it affordable, especially by any family sending a daughter to college.

Protective Equipment:

Our protective body armor gives our students the opportunity to safely practice full force strikes.  As the originators of the padded assailant, we have the best protective body armor made. However, it is only available for certified Model Mugging instructors.

Adrenaline stress training encompasses much more than just practicing strikes against someone  wearing a protective suit. Our students’ emotional and physical safety is a priority during training. For a certified Model Mugging Instructor, using the padded attacker in Adrenaline Stress Training is just one factor of the many factors that contributed to the evolution of martial science.

Instructor Certification:

Model Mugging was founded after extensive research that began in 1970 to develop the course that was first taught in 1971.  In the over 45 years that followed, we have continued to apply new research and update our methodologies. We look forward to training others to teach the program.

If you would like to teach the Model Mugging System, please fill out our instructor application at the bottom of instructor certification description.
