Instructor Training Phases

Three Phases of Instructor Certification

There are three phases to Model Mugging Basic Self Defense Instructor Certification. Training time is divided into two weeks to develop better the depth of each instructor’s experience, knowledge, and proficiency in teaching martial science. However, total training time is dependent on each individual and instructor team. Individual factors include study and preparation time for mastering physical and academic material, as well as teamwork, leadership in professional instructor development, and physical performance of skills. We aim to maintain the quality of the Model Mugging System and provide you with a proper methodology to ensure the safety of both you and your future students.

Instructor Training is a train-the-trainer course. Instructors are taught how to teach a proven system developed from over 50 years of experience in training and education. They will demonstrate effectiveness in working with a wide range of students, including those with physical capabilities and trauma survivors. Instructors are required to demonstrate the skills and then teach them under supervision, with an in-depth understanding of the strategies and tactics taught within the curriculum.

There are three certification phases designed to help candidates become safe and proficient in understanding the basics of teaching and coaching role model mastery, martial science, and adrenaline stress training in realistic scenarios that also integrate the use of protective body armor for fighting, based on the Five Principles of Self Defense©.

Recertification Training

The purpose of instructor recertification training sessions is to ensure a highly qualified staff of instructors who are continually learning more about the many facets of teaching Model Mugging. Recertification allows quick and effective updates to the curriculum in a forum for networking and synergizing instructor development.

Certified Instructors are required to pass an instructor’s exam each year. Each year, the exams will increase in depth of knowledge and research, as well as current affairs and updated crime analysis. We want you to become experts on this subject. Without recertification, dilution over time will occur, and the curriculum loses realism, safety suffers, and content is distorted. There is a need for crime analysis updates and protection from content dilution that would cause in a loss of realism in classes.
